Lawyer Alison Battison highlighted her client's contribution and detailed his brave act
AB, a father of two children, risked his life, even though he has no regulated legal status in the country
Ahmed al-Ahmed, the man who wrested the gun from the gunman during the terrorist attack in Australia, was not the only civilian who reacted heroically in the chaos. Footage from Bondi Beach shows another man running straight towards the gunfire as police try to control the situation. The man has now been identified as a refugee from the Middle East and a father of two.
His lawyer, Alison Battison, confirmed to CNN that this is a person who does not have a regulated legal status in Australia, but nevertheless knowingly risked his life to help the police and prevent further victims.
He left his pregnant wife and two children to stop the terrorist
Battison explained that her client, whom she referred to by the initials"AB", arrived by taxi at Bondi Beach and immediately reacted as soon as he heard shots. His pregnant wife and two children are Australian citizens.
A video circulating on social media shows one of the attackers, Navid Akram, shooting from the bridge before being hit and falling to the ground. Soon after, AB, dressed in black, is seen approaching the downed assailant with his hands raised.
According to the lawyer, AB hid behind a tree along with a detective, waiting for the right moment.
- He went to the stairs and when the attacker fell, he ran up the stairs. The attacker was still holding the weapon and he pushed him away with his foot - she said.

The police shot at him by mistake
Approaching the armed man, AB walked directly into the line of police fire.
- He pushed the gun away with his foot and there was confusion because people thought he was the attacker so the police shot at him - said Battison. The situation calmed down only when the detective ran towards the policemen and shouted:"No, he is with me".
