In short

  • Investigations by the District Prosecutor's Office in Kraków have shown that drones found in three towns in the Świętokrzyskie Province were so-called decoys, not attack drones.
  • Cyrillic markings were observed on all the drones. They did not pose an explosive, chemical, biological, or radiological threat.
  • The drones fell far from buildings, causing only minor damage. According to the Ministry of Interior and Administration, debris from 16 such devices has been found so far.

As PR spokesman Prosecutor Janusz Kowalski announced in a statement, three investigative teams were formed. Each consisted of two prosecutors – officers from the 8th Military Department of the District Prosecutor's Office in Kraków and the Military Department of the District Prosecutor's Office in Kraków-Krowodrza, two investigators from the Military Gendarmerie Branch in Kraków, and representatives of the Military Counterintelligence Service.

"In all places, before commencing the activities, the bomb disposal patrol carried out the necessary checks for a possible explosion hazard, and everywhere a specialized unit of the State Fire Service also carried out checks for the possibility of radiological, chemical and biological hazards" - we read in the press release.

Russian Drones Over Poland: Prosecutor's Office's First Findings

"No such threat was detected in any of the locations. The risk of explosions was excluded, and no explosives were found, which allows us to assume that all of the three drones are so-called decoys - not attack drones" - it was revealed.

After completing the necessary checks, an inspection began and evidence was secured. During the inspection, all essential drone components were secured for further examination. In Raków, the inspection was completed after 1:30 a.m., in Czyżów after 2:30 a.m., and in Sobótka after 4:20 a.m.

A representative of the prosecutor's office indicated that all three drones fell away from buildings, causing no significant material damage (in Sobótka, a rapeseed crop was damaged). No people were injured. Cyrillic markings were found on all drones. These were three different types of drones.

On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces reported that during the Russian Federation's nighttime attack on Ukraine, Polish airspace was repeatedly violated by drones. Defensive procedures were initiated.

Polish and allied radar systems tracked more than a dozen objects; those deemed to pose a threat were neutralized. The military and security services are searching for debris. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the remains of 16 drones have been found so far.
