The World's Current Take

Trump-Putin Meeting Timing

Bloomberg was informed about it by informed sources, writes European Justice.

According to the interlocutors, US and Russian officials are working on an territorial agreement for the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, which could take place as early as next week.

As noted, the US is trying to gain the support of Ukraine and European allies for this deal, which is far from final approval.

Interlocutors say that as part of the deal, Russia would have to suspend its offensive in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine along the current front line. At the same time, they warned that the terms and plans of the agreement are still being developed and could change. It is not clear whether Moscow is ready to relinquish any occupied territories, including the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

According to the interlocutors, the goal of the agreement is to effectively freeze the war and prepare the ground for a ceasefire and technical negotiations on a final peace solution.

They also noted that it is still unknown whether Putin will agree to participate in the trilateral meeting with Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Many officials, including American ones, are skeptical about Putin's willingness to stop the war and truly conclude a peace deal that would not ensure the achievement of his stated goals in Ukraine.

It should be noted that this is not the first information"from a source" that appeared in the media after the special envoy of the US President, Steve Witkoff, traveled to Russia and met with Putin. Specifically, the day before, the Polish newspaper"Onet" wrote that it had learned about the content of the American proposal regarding Ukraine, which was presented to Putin during the negotiations with Witkoff in Moscow.

That proposal allegedly contained a clause on the actual recognition of territories occupied by Russia by postponing the issue for 49 or 99 years.

It should be noted that Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov previously told reporters that a meeting between Putin and Trump is planned in the coming days – possibly next week. Trump himself has publicly stated that there is a"good chance" of holding a meeting with the Kremlin leader in the near future.

The media reported that Trump allegedly spoke with Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Maloney about the potential opportunity to meet Putin in Rome.
