(Beijing/Seoul=Yonhap News) Correspondent Jeong Seong-jo, Reporters Kwon Su-hyeon and Kwon Sook-hee = As China is accelerating the consolidation of anti-Western and anti-American forces, North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the 4th (local time) and said,"I highly value China's fair stance on the Korean Peninsula issue."

According to China's state-run Xinhua News Agency, Chairman Kim said during his meeting with President Xi that afternoon,"(regarding the Korean Peninsula issue) I hope to continue to strengthen coordination at multilateral platforms such as the United Nations to safeguard the common interests and fundamental interests of both sides."

Xi Jinping also stated,"China has always maintained an objective and fair stance on the Korean Peninsula issue," and "We will continue to strengthen coordination with North Korea and strive to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula."

Xi Jinping also said,"In the face of unprecedented global challenges, I have repeatedly proposed the idea of a community with a shared future for mankind, global development, global security, global civilization, and global governance, and the North has actively supported and responded to it," and emphasized,"North Korea and China will strengthen strategic cooperation on international and regional issues and safeguard common interests."

Xi Jinping said,"North Korea and China are good neighbors, friends, and comrades who share the same destiny and protect each other," adding,"Both countries are socialist countries led by the Communist Party and share common ideals, beliefs, and fighting goals."

The North also expressed hope for economic cooperation with China.

Chairman Kim said,"China has achieved great development under the strong leadership of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the guidance of the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era," and emphasized,"I hope that North Korea and China will maintain close exchanges at all levels, exchange experiences in party construction and economic development, and help the Workers' Party of Korea and the country develop construction projects."

He added,"I hope that the two countries will deepen their mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation and achieve greater results."

Xi Jinping attributed significance to Chairman Kim's attendance at the 80th anniversary military parade of the People's Republic of China, which was his fifth visit to China after a six-year and eight-month hiatus.

Xi Jinping also emphasized,"General Secretary Kim Jong-un's visit to China and attendance at the Victory Day celebrations demonstrates North Korea's firm determination to defend the achievements of its victory in World War II," and "It also provided an important opportunity for the two parties and countries of North Korea and China to develop friendly and cooperative relations."

Chairman Kim, who shares a common ground with China in anti-Americanism, also added,"No matter how the international situation changes, the friendship between North Korea and China will not change, and it is North Korea's firm will to continuously deepen and develop North Korea-China relations."

During the talks, North Korea stated that it would firmly support China's position on issues related to China's core interests, including Taiwan, Tibet, and Xinjiang, and support China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

China expressed its support for North Korea's socialist cause and expressed gratitude for its valuable support and assistance.

The state-run China Central Television (CCTV) immediately released a video of the two leaders' remarks during their meeting that day.

Xi Jinping said,"I am very happy to meet Chairman Kim again after six years," adding,"During my state visit to North Korea in June 2019, I could feel the family-like atmosphere between North Korea and China wherever I went."

Chairman Kim nodded in agreement and said,"Visiting China for the first time in six years, I felt deeply that China has changed and developed beyond recognition," adding,"I felt deeply that even as the world changes, the friendship between North Korea and China will not change."

The meeting between Chairman Kim and President Xi is the first in six years, following two meetings during Chairman Kim's visit to China in January 2019 and President Xi's visit to Pyongyang in June of that year.

That afternoon, Chairman Xi and Chairman Kim held a small tea party and banquet. Present were Cai Qi, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and fifth-ranking official in the CPC hierarchy, and Wang Yi, Director of the CPC Central Foreign Affairs Office (also serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs).

Considering the time of the report, which was broadcast live by Chinese state-run media on that day, it is estimated that the two countries met for less than two hours.

Chairman Kim appears to have concluded his fifth visit to China. At approximately 10:05 p.m. that day, his special train departed Beijing Station.

Chairman Kim's visit to China this time was his first in six years and eight months.

The previous four visits to China took place in March, May, and June 2018 and January 2019, respectively, during the first term of US President Donald Trump, when inter-Korean and North Korea-US dialogues were in progress.
