Russian leader Vladimir Putin has"hinted" to US President Donald Trump that he is ready to "give" parts of the partially occupied Ukrainian regions of Zaporizhia and Kherson if Ukraine withdraws from the territories in Donbas that it still holds, the Washington Post reported, quoted by BNR.

The newspaper cited anonymous"senior officials" familiar with the phone call that Putin and Trump held on Thursday evening.

So far, there has been no confirmation or denial from the Kremlin and the White House.

The Washington Post reported last night that some White House officials saw"progress" in Putin's position compared to his meeting with Trump two months ago in Alaska. At that time, the Russian leader again demanded that the Ukrainians cede all of Donbas, but without any territorial compensation. The Washington Post's sources claim that during the subsequent discussions with the Ukrainian delegation that arrived in Washington on Friday, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkov pressured the Ukrainians to give up Donbas, arguing that most of the people there were Russian-speaking. Immediately after the conference in Alaska, the Ukrainian leadership, led by President Zelensky, ruled out any retreat in Donbas, and after their meeting on Friday at the White House, both Zelensky and Donald Trump stated that hostilities should be stopped at the lines reached by the troops of the warring parties, and then peace terms should be negotiated.

Meanwhile, fighting in eastern Ukraine continues unabated. Sources from both warring sides report minor advances by advancing Russian troops.

The Defense Ministry in Moscow notes in its latest report on the fighting that its troops have captured a village on the southern approaches to the Ukrainian fortress of Pokrovsk.

According to Deep State, a Ukrainian analytical bloc with close ties to the military in their country, the Russians invaded the city itself earlier this week. The blog also reports that Russian troops are advancing towards two towns in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
