Major General Winthai Suvaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, addressed reports that Cambodia has submitted a letter to UNESCO, alleging that Thailand’s military operations involved the use of supporting weapons that caused damage to the Preah Vihear Temple, He was speaking at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters.

In response, the Thai Army clarified that its military operations were strictly targeted at Cambodian military forces and did not aim at civilian areas or any locations unrelated to military operations. Furthermore, the Preah Vihear Temple is not located within the trajectory or direction of Thai artillery fire.

As such, the Cambodian claim that the temple was damaged by Thai attacks is considered a clear distortion of the facts.

This assertion is also consistent with findings by the Thai Army, which has detected ongoing attempts by the Cambodian side to disseminate false or misleading information on several issues.

The Royal Thai Army reaffirmed its commitment to conduct operations with caution and in accordance with humanitarian principles and international law, to safeguard national sovereignty and security without harming individuals or property unrelated to the military conflict.

Earlier, Col Ritcha Suksuwanon, Deputy Army Spokesperson, clarified that Thai military operations are strictly limited to retaliatory actions against Cambodian military targets and only within areas that have been encroached upon by Cambodian forces.

He emphasized that the army’s actions are not aimed at occupying cultural or disputed sites, but are focused solely on military defense and border protection in response to Cambodian aggression.
