The police in Cyprus arrested a male person suspected of terrorist activities and espionage, local authorities announced earlier today. The suspect appeared today before a District Court judge, who ordered an eight-day detention until the investigation is completed, Reuters reported.
Police said they would not release further details citing national security concerns. Cyprus is very close to the Middle East and in recent days has been used as a transit point for people either leaving or going to the Middle East region due to the conflict between Israel and Iran. However, according to Reuters, terrorist offenses in this island nation are very rare.
