Ukraine’s Military Intelligence (HUR) cyber unit knocked out a major Russian logistics company in a sweeping overnight attack timed to Ukraine’s Armed Forces Day.
Working with the hacker group BO Team, the HUR struck the Eltrans+ logistics group early on Dec. 6, dismantling its information systems and shutting down core operations.
The attack disabled more than 700 computers and servers, erased over 1,000 user accounts and destroyed or encrypted about 165 terabytes of critical data, the sources in Ukraine’s special services told Kyiv Post.
“This wasn’t disruption – it was a full blackout of their digital infrastructure,” the source said.
The strike also took down the company’s access control and video surveillance systems, wiped data storage and backups, and disabled network equipment along with the core of its data center.
Shipment declarations were deleted, and all company websites were defaced with messages marking Ukraine’s Armed Forces Day.
HUR sources said the timing was deliberate, calling the operation “a reminder that Ukraine’s defenders fight on every front – including cyberspace.”
Eltrans+, one of Russia’s top 10 customs brokers and freight forwarders, serves more than 5,000 companies nationwide. It manages international and domestic cargo by road, sea, air and multimodal routes and provides warehouse storage and consolidated shipments.
The company also transports sanctioned goods and electronic components from China used in Russia’s defense industry, the sources said.
The attack comes as part of a broader HUR cyber campaign. Earlier, a major Siberian internet provider – Russia’s Orion Telecom – reported losses of more than 66 million rubles after a June 12 operation that paralyzed its infrastructure.
According to a complaint the company filed with Russian police, the strike wiped out systems across several regions, leaked users’ personal data and left one closed uranium-mining city without internet or TV access.
HUR has said Orion Telecom’s networks were actively used by Russian security agencies to support military operations against Ukraine.
