Gaza, water distribution site bombed: ten dead, including eight children. IDF: "It was a mistake, the target was a terrorist."

Sunday, July 13

At least 43 Palestinians, including children, were killed in new Israeli raids on Gaza on Sunday, according to Mahmud Bassal, spokesman for the Gaza Strip's Civil Defense. The attacks hit several areas of the enclave. Gaza City was targeted by numerous bombings overnight and into the morning: 12 people died in the attack on a popular market near Ramzon al-Samer, in the Al-Daraj neighborhood, one of the most densely populated areas of the city. A surgeon from the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital was among the victims.

Another drone strike hit a drinking water distribution point in an area set up to welcome displaced people west of the Nuseirat camp, killing at least ten people, including eight children. The IDF (Israeli Armed Forces) attributed the incident to a “technical malfunction of the projectile,” which, they say, was intended to eliminate “a terrorist Islamic Jihad operative,” but “hit dozens of meters away from the intended target. The incident is currently under investigation. We are aware of reports of casualties in the area as a result of the incident and are examining the details,” the IDF said in a statement, in which it said it was “making every effort to minimize harm to non-involved civilians” and expressed “regret for any harm caused to non-combatants.”

Ten more deaths were caused by an attack that hit the same Nuseirat refugee camp, in the central Gaza Strip. Finally, in the south, three Palestinians were killed in a raid that hit a tent of displaced people in the coastal area of Al-Mawasi. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera TV, citing medical sources, reports that the death toll from Saturday's attacks has risen to 110: at least 34 of the victims were waiting for food near an aid distribution site run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a US-based foundation supported by Israel that has been granted a monopoly on managing aid.
