Before answering the question, the president asked the woman if she was from Ukraine. She replied that her husband was in Ukraine and serving in the army.
"It's tough," Trump said.
"So let me just say, they want to have anti-missile missiles," Trump said at a news conference after a NATO summit in The Hague on Wednesday."We'll see if we can get some of them. You know, they're very hard to get. We need them... we've been getting them to Israel and they're very effective, 100 percent effective."
He also added: "That's a very good question. I wish you the best of luck. I can see that this makes you very sad. Please pass on my best wishes to your husband. Okay?"
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stressed Ukraine's urgent need for air defense systems, including American-made Patriot launchers and missiles, and said Ukraine is ready to purchase these weapons.
Zelensky met with Trump in The Hague
A meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump took place in The Hague on the sidelines of the NATO summit, Ukrinform's correspondent in The Hague reported.
According to Serhiy Nykyforov, a spokesman for the Ukrainian leader, the negotiations between V. Zelensky and D. Trump lasted about 50 minutes.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump said he and Zelensky would discuss"difficulties, some issues" during their meeting."We'll discuss Ukraine. Yes, that seems most likely," the US president added.
Zelensky himself announced on Wednesday that he and Trump had discussed a ceasefire in Ukraine. The Ukrainian president said on social media that the meeting was “long and substantive,” adding: “We discussed how to achieve a ceasefire and real peace. We talked about how to protect our people.”
A source in the Ukrainian presidency told AFP that Zelensky was"satisfied with the conversation and grateful to Trump."
After the talks, Trump also commented that the closely watched meeting with Zelensky"couldn't have been more pleasant."
"We had some difficult times at times, but he couldn't have been nicer," Trump said of the meeting, apparently referring to the infamous Oval Office spat between the two leaders.
