American tariffs of 30% on exports from the European Union will harm businesses, consumers and patients on both sides of the Atlantic.

This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the social network X, Ukrinform reports.

"A 30% tariff on EU exports will hurt businesses, consumers and patients on both sides of the Atlantic. We will continue to work towards a deal by August 1," she said.

Von der Leyen also added that at the same time, the bloc is ready to defend the EU's interests based on proportionate countermeasures.

As Ukrinform reported, on Saturday, July 12, US President Donald Trump published two ultimatum letters on social media about the introduction of 30% tariffs on goods from the European Union and Mexico starting August 1 if the parties cannot agree on better trade terms by then.
