There has been an initial green light from the US to the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. The Pentagon has given the"green light" and now it will be up to the White House to decide. The Joint Chiefs of Staff assessed that it would not have a negative impact on US stocks, leaving the final political decision in the hands of the president. This was reported by Cnn citing three US and European officials familiar with the issue of the supply of the missiles which have a range of approximately 1,600 kilometers

.

Trump said earlier this month, during a working lunch with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, that he would prefer not to provide the missiles to Kiev because “we don’t want to give away what we need to protect our country.” The Joint Chiefs of Staff briefed the White House on its assessment earlier this month, shortly before Trump met with Zelensky, who insisted the missiles should more effectively target oil and energy facilities deep inside Russia.

Trump's decision to hold off came a day after speaking by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who told Trump that the Tomahawks could strike key Russian cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg without having a significant impact on the battlefield, but would damage relations between the United States and Russia, according to CNN. Defense officials are also still evaluating how Kiev will train and deploy the missiles, according to officials interviewed by the broadcaster:"There are still several operational issues," the sources said,"that need to be resolved for Ukraine to use the missiles effectively."
