Ukrainian strikes have targeted key military infrastructure, including facilities in Crimea and the Zaporozhye region

A series of explosions rocked the Russian city of Orel in the early hours of the morning after Ukraine launched long-range Flamingo cruise missiles at targets deep inside Russian territory. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces later confirmed the first combat use of domestic long-range weapons, including the new"Flamingo" system,"Kiev Post" reports.
According to a video posted on the Telegram channel"Nikolayevsky Vanek", Russian air defense systems tried to intercept the incoming rockets, but the video showed large burning fragments falling from the sky into residential yards. Burning debris fell between parked cars and just meters from residential buildings.
Ukraine confirms coordinated strikes
Hours after the incident, the General Staff of Ukraine confirmed that the country's defense forces had carried out coordinated night strikes on"several dozen" Russian military and logistics facilities across Russia and in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.
According to the statement, Ukrainian forces hit several important targets in occupied Crimea, including:
- Morskoye Neftyanoi oil terminal
- helicopter parking lots
- places for storage and preparation of drones at Kirovsk airport
- air defense radar near Yevpatoria
In the occupied part of Zaporozhye Oblast, Ukrainian strikes targeted an oil depot near Berdyansk and forward command posts of the Russian 5th Combined Arms and 127th Motorized Divisions.
First use of the new domestic weapon
The General Staff also confirmed that"targets on the territory of the Russian Federation were engaged" and that the extent of the damage is still being assessed. The announcement marks the first official acknowledgment that Ukraine used a range of domestic long-range weapons during the operation - including the newly developed Flamingo, Bars and Lutij missile and unmanned systems. The regional governor of Oryol Oblast, Andrei Klitschko, declared an air alert soon after the explosions and called on residents to stay in rooms without windows or seek shelter, warning of possible further debris from air defense intercepts.

The cruise missile"Flamingo" was presented in August 2025 with a stated range of more than 3,000 kilometers. A representative of the"Fire Point" company previously claimed that this missile is superior to the American cruise missile "Tomahawk".
