White House and US Government Response - Criticism of Nobel Committee

Russian President Vladimir Putin also reacted to this news, saying that the Nobel Committee has"largely lost its authority" because it "has repeatedly awarded the Peace Prize to those who have done nothing for peace."

"I don't know if Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, but he is doing a lot to resolve complex crises," Putin said, not for the first time praising the US president's peace initiatives.

Trump himself responded to Putin's comments on the social network Truth Social. Trump shared a clip of Putin talking about the Nobel Peace Prize, and commented:"Thank you, President Putin."

US White House spokesman Steven Cheung also reacted sensitively to the news of the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to the Venezuelan opposition leader.

He said that the Nobel Committee had proven that it puts politics above peace.

"President Trump will continue to make peace deals, end wars, and save lives," Cheung said."He has the heart of a philanthropist. There will never be another like him who can move mountains with his sheer force of will."

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the prestigious prize to M. C. Machado on Friday, recognizing her fight for democracy in her country.

Machado dedicated his Nobel Peace Prize to the Venezuelan people and Trump

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado on Friday dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize to the Venezuelan people and to US President Donald Trump for his "resolute support" for her country's movement for democracy.

"I dedicate this award to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his resolute support of our cause!" she wrote on the "X" platform.

"We are on the verge of victory and today, more than ever before, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the people of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our main allies in the pursuit of Freedom and Democracy," she added.

Machado has been in hiding in Venezuela for the past year following elections that authoritarian leftist President Nicolas Maduro is accused of stealing.

She was barred from running in the election, so she campaigned to vote for her running mate, former diplomat Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who is considered the legitimate winner by much of the international community.

The Nobel committee cited her"tireless work in defending the Venezuelan people's right to democracy and in the fight for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy."

Machado, 58, supports Trump's campaign of military pressure on Maduro, including a large US naval deployment near Venezuela, as a"necessary measure" to achieve a democratic victory in Venezuela.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt shared a post by M. C. Machado on her"X" account, in which she dedicated her Nobel Prize to Trump.

Several of Machado's fellow opposition leaders, including two-time presidential candidate Henrique Capriles, congratulated her on receiving the prize.

"May this recognition be another impetus for PEACE, and may our Venezuela leave its suffering in the past and regain the freedom and democracy it has fought for for so many years," H. Capriles wrote on the"X" account.
