Zelensky's Stance on Russia

The BBC writes that the US president probably just made a mistake.

"I'll be meeting with Putin soon, I'm going to Russia on Friday," Trump said at a press conference.

The US president has previously said he will meet with Putin, but he insisted that this summit will take place in the state of Alaska.

The meeting between Trump and Putin is scheduled for Alaska on Friday, August 15. The US president probably made a mistake when he talked about his plans for the week.

At the same press conference, Trump announced that he was deploying the National Guard"to restore order and public safety in Washington."

More details about the meeting with Putin revealed

Trump was asked during a press conference about his upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin, which is expected to take place this Friday in Alaska, Sky News reports.

"This is a war that should never have happened," Trump said.

"This is a war that wouldn't have happened if I had been president, it would never have happened."

He describes the upcoming talks as an "acquaintance meeting" and says that "he [Putin] wants to engage."

Trump adds that he believes Putin wants to "end" the war.

"I've said that a few times and I was disappointed because I had a great conversation with him and then missiles were launched at Kyiv or some other place," Trump said.

The US president claimed that he would tell Putin:"You have to end this war, you have to end it."

He adds that after the negotiations he will call European leaders,"with whom he gets along very well."

But Trump said he would not broker a deal between Russia and Ukraine, adding that"it's none of my business."

"I got a call and they said they'd like to meet, and I'll see what they want to meet about," he said.

"I would like to see a ceasefire, I would like to see the best deal that can be made for both sides, because it takes two to tango," Trump said.

Meeting with Putin"will be good, but could also be bad"

Donald Trump said he thinks a meeting with Vladimir Putin "will be good, but it could be bad."

"I'm here for one reason - to end a war that someone else started," he told reporters.

He continued:"Eventually, I'll put them both [Putin and Zelensky] in one room, I'll be there or I won't be, and I think the problem will be solved."

Trump also confirmed that he would speak with European leaders before meeting with Putin.

Trump was asked if Zelensky would participate in Friday's talks

Donald Trump was asked whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would attend Friday's talks in Alaska.

"He won't be attending," Trump told reporters.

"I would say he could go, but he's been to countless meetings for three and a half years now, and nothing has changed."

Trump claimed he would be able to tell whether a peace deal would be reached "probably within the first two minutes of meeting with Putin."

Stated that they will try to return part of the occupied territories to Ukraine

The United States and its partners will try to return some of the territory occupied by Russia to Ukraine. However, some territory exchanges will still take place.

As RBC-Ukraine reports, this was stated by US President Donald Trump at a press conference.

According to the American president, the territorial exchange will be"in Ukraine's favor."

"This is a good thing, not a bad thing. But it is also bad for both sides. It is very difficult because the line (confrontation - ed.) is very uneven, there will be some land exchanges. We will change the front line. Russia occupies a significant part of Ukrainian territory, we will try to return part of this territory to Ukraine," he said.

Trump got it wrong twice

Donald Trump devoted much of his extensive press conference to talks about Russia and his upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin, Sky News reports.

But during a press conference that lasted more than an hour, he twice erred in saying he would meet with the Russian president in Russia, not Alaska.

He first said this when discussing the “public safety emergency” in Washington:

"This is a tragic emergency, and I'm ashamed to be here. You know, I'm going to meet with Putin. I'm going to Russia on Friday. I don't like being here talking about how unsafe, dirty, and ugly this once beautiful capital has become, with walls covered in graffiti."

Later in the press conference, Trump said:"We're going to Russia. It's going to be a big event."

But in the end, he insisted:"I think it's very respectful that the Russian president is coming to our country, rather than us going to his country or even a third country."

After former President Joe Biden accidentally introduced Volodymyr Zelensky as Vladimir Putin but quickly corrected his mistake, Republicans described Trump's predecessor as"totally unfit for the job."
