Updated with information on casualties in Odesa
The death toll from Russia’s overnight attack on Odesa has risen to two, according to the press service of the State Emergency Service in the Odesa region and the Odesa regional prosecutor’s office.
At least nine people were injured, and another nine were rescued thanks to the quick actions of emergency responders.
A total of 27 units of equipment and 108 rescuers from the State Emergency Service, along with three units of equipment and 15 personnel from the National Guard and volunteers, were involved in mitigating the aftermath of the attack.
The prosecutor’s office confirmed that two men died as a result of the attack. Among the nine injured were five women and three men, with another individual suffering from acute stress.
Preliminary reports suggest that more than 10 strike drones were used in the assault.
Currently, officials are assessing the damage to affected facilities, and a full list of the destruction is being compiled. Prosecutors are on-site, working with other law enforcement agencies to document the consequences of Russia’s aggression.
The Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal case for war crimes in connection with the deaths.
Updated with reports of casualties in Kyiv
Kyiv Mayor Klitschko reported that four people were injured in the capital as a result of the overnight attack. All victims were hospitalized.
In the early hours of June 10, Klitschko stated that emergency doctors had been called to several districts of the city, including Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Obolonskyi, Podilskyi.
He also reported damage in specific areas: in Shevchenkivskyi, vehicles, a business center, and a balcony of a residential building were on fire; in Obolonskyi, UAV debris fell onto the grounds of a school, and a pharmacy building in a residential area was set ablaze; in Darnytskyi, debris crashed onto a private house.
In the Solomyanskyi district, a fire broke out in a multi-story building. In Podilskyi, UAV wreckage fell in two separate locations.
Thick black smoke billowed over the city from the fires, which began early in the morning.
The State Emergency Service aviation was deployed to assist in extinguishing the fires. Due to the poor air quality, residents are advised to keep their windows closed and avoid unnecessary outdoor activity.
Later, Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), clarified on Telegram that a Russian attack in the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv resulted in the death of a woman.
“Sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. This is a heavy and painful loss. Russian strikes continue to target not military sites, but the lives of ordinary people,” Tkachenko wrote.
Local Telegram channels have shared images and videos showing the aftermath of the Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital.
The helicopters of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) were called into action to help address the aftermath of a Russian attack.
In a report shared on Telegram, the HUR stated that a large-scale fire had erupted in the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv. By order of Kyrylo Budanov, head of the HUR, reconnaissance aircraft were deployed to help contain the blaze.
“Two Ka-32 multi-purpose helicopters were used in the operation. Despite difficult conditions, including thick smoke and high temperatures, the crews made 40 water drops, totaling up to 120 tons,” the report read.
According to the commander of the HUR aviation unit, known by the call sign “Maestro,” the fire was successfully extinguished within three hours, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the aviation team and the State Emergency Service.
“As a result of this joint operation, three industrial facilities were saved,” the HUR added.
Odesa Governor Maksym Kiper also posted a video showing the aftermath of the Russian strike on Odesa.
