Palestinian Prisoner Release and Celebrations

Shortly after seven o'clock, Swedish time, the first seven hostages were handed over to the Red Cross inside Gaza. A little before ten o'clock, a further 13 hostages were handed over to the Red Cross inside Gaza. All 20 remaining living hostages have thus been handed over.

– The crowd cheers and joins in the song” Israel's"People are alive," says Expressen's Arne Lapidus, who is on site at the Re'im military base.

The first seven hostages have arrived at the base where they will be examined by doctors and met with their families. They will then be transported to three different hospitals in the Tel Aviv area.

“He is thin and pale, but he is smiling,” Efrat Mor, mother of the released Eitan Mor, told the Times of Israel after she saw her son in a video recording on Monday.

Later, she got to meet her son for real.

“Looking forward to hugging my son”

Arne Lapidus describes the people in the crowd as relieved and happy, but tired after waiting for many hours.

Among the first surrenders are twins Gali and Ziv Berman, Matan Angrest and Guy Gilboa Dalal, among others, according to Times of Israel.

“This is a dream come true. We are euphoric, incredibly excited and dying to hug him,” Guy Gilboa Dalal’s father, Ilan Dalal, told Haaretz.

Twin brothers Gali and Ziv Berman appear to have been kept apart during their two years in captivity. Pictures show them being reunited in a hug after being handed over by Hamas.

Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson writes that many families today breathe a sigh of relief.

"I share the joy with the released hostages and their families and the sorrow with those who will never see their loved ones again," Kristersson writes on X.

He also writes that"impressive efforts by the US, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey" mean that there is hope for peace.

"Sweden gives its full support to President Trump's peace plan," he writes further.

Cecilia Schwarz, 58, a hotel manager, from Yated in southern Israel, is one of the thousands of Israelis waiting to receive those who are released.

– My best friend is getting her two sons back who were kidnapped by Hamas two years ago. It has been a terrible time for her and all of us, she tells Arne Lapidus.

Sky News also reports that several transport trucks have been lined up outside Israel's military prison in the West Bank. As part of the agreement, around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners will also be released.

Trump: I think it will last

US President Donald Trump has landed in Israel where he was received by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Aboard Air Force One, Trump said that “the war is over.” He was asked by reporters whether he believes the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will last.

– I think so. I think it will last, says Trump.

World leaders from over 20 countries have begun traveling to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to participate in a summit on the future of Gaza.

The Israeli military does not expect to recover the remains of all the dead hostages during Monday's prisoner exchange, reports the AFP news agency.

"Unfortunately, we do not expect all the dead to be returned tomorrow," a spokesperson said on Sunday.
