A Russian dictator in Alaska Vladimir Putin demanded the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the entire territory of Donbas.
US President Donald Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders about this, writes Bloomberg citing informed sources. At the same time, the head of the White House stated that now the decision on the territories remains with Ukraine.
According to Bloomberg, Trump's words are causing concern among some European officials: they fear that Trump will pressure Zelensky to cede territories in exchange for a peace deal.
"International borders should not be changed by force," the leaders of European countries and the European Union said after talking with Zelensky and Trump.
Trump also told the leaders that he was willing to contribute to Ukraine's security, as long as it was not tied to NATO, the sources added. Trump made it clear that Putin would agree to that, the sources said.
On this issue, European leaders confirmed the need for a trilateral meeting between Trump, Putin, and Zelensky.
Putin and Trump talks
Trump ended talks with Putin early on August 15. WP explained what was behind this and what he could talk about. The publication noted that the talks were scheduled to last 7 hours, but lasted only three.
The publication noted that Putin seized the moment, in Trump's presence, delivered a scathing lesson about the"root causes" of the war against Ukraine - a code name for the country's demilitarization and blocking its accession to NATO.
