Kirk, a right-wing activist and commentator and a staunch supporter of US President Trump, was shot and killed on the 10th. After Trump announced on the 12th that he had apprehended the suspect, the FBI and Utah officials subsequently held a press conference, saying,"We got him."

Reuters reported that Utah Governor Spencer Cox held a press conference at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on the 12th and said,"We caught him. On the evening of September 11, a family member of Tyler Robinson contacted a family friend, who then provided information to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, alleging that Robinson confessed or implied to them that he had committed the incident."

According to the BBC, Cox said investigators reviewed surveillance footage and found Robinson arriving at the scene at approximately 8:29 a.m. local time on September 10 in a Dodge Challenger. He added that when investigators approached Robinson at the scene on September 12, he was wearing clothing consistent with that shown in the video.

Cox noted that"investigators interviewed a family member of Robinson who said that Robinson had become more political in recent years. The family member also mentioned a recent incident in which Robinson was talking to another family member at a family dinner before September 10th. The family member mentioned that Charlie Kirk was about to go to Utah Valley University (UVU) and they discussed why they did not like Kirk and his views." According to Cox, Robinson also told the family that"Kirk was full of hatred and was spreading hatred."

Cox added that bullet casings found near the rifle were engraved with messages, including"Hey fascist! Catch!" He added that investigators interviewed Robinson's roommate, who showed them messages on Discord with an account named"Tyler." The messages from "Tyler" mentioned retrieving a rifle from a "drop point," placing it in the bushes, inspecting the area where the rifle was found, and wrapping the weapon in a towel.

FBI Director Kash Patel said,"Just last night (9/11), the suspect was taken into custody at 10 p.m. local time. It was done in less than 36 hours, to be exact, in 33 hours." Patel also said that the FBI has evaluated forensic evidence and examined more than 11,000 possible clues.
