Even if hardly anyone in Germany knew about it until yesterday, the murder of Charlie Kirk (†31) will be ranked among the historic US assassinations, alongside JFK, Martin Luther King, and Bobby Kennedy.
Because: The hopes of millions of young people who felt overwhelmed by the rampant culture wars at US universities rested on Kirk.
He was uncompromisingly committed to Christian values, freedom, and Israel. He did not support Ukraine.
What was special about him: He spoke to anyone who disagreed with him and challenged them to"prove me wrong." This made him a passionate democrat.
Kirk's murder is therefore an attack on everything that defines America and the West – above all, the open debate we have known since ancient Greece.
It is therefore fundamentally wrong to react to this execution with old right-left patterns.
