White House Criticism of Nobel Committee

Machado Dedicating Prize to Trump

Several hours after María Corina Machado, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition to the Nicolás Maduro regime, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the Chavistas reacted through Telesur."From coup plotter to Nobel Peace Prize", was the title of the site aligned with the Venezuelan dictatorship on its portal.

"The Venezuelan far-right leader, who unsuccessfully attempted to seize power through non-institutional means, received the Nobel Peace Prize on October 9, 2025, after a career marked by coup-mongering, destabilizing actions, and calls for military intervention," they added.

On the other hand, they linked the award to the opposition leader with a push from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"This Friday, October 10, and thanks to the support of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to the far-right Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado," the Telesur article states.

"The surrender has coincided with ongoing judicial proceedings, current political bans, and recent acts of violence under his responsibility linked to the post-election period in Venezuela during the 2024 presidential elections," the unsigned article continues.

"De golpista al Nobel de la Paz", la reacción del chavismo al premio de María Corina Machado en Telesur."From coup plotter to Nobel Peace Prize winner," the Chavista reaction to María Corina Machado's award on Telesur.

According to Telesur,"Machado gained public notoriety in April 2002 when she signed the so-called 'Carmona Decree,' issued during the coup d'état against then-President Hugo Chávez, who was defeated by a massive popular mobilization and by military personnel loyal to the Bolivarian Revolution." They emphasized that this decree "established the dissolution of all public powers in the country. State sources point to her as a participant in the events that disrupted constitutional order."

They also recall that due to this situation,"legal proceedings were initiated for the crime of treason. She was sentenced to 28 years in prison, although she was later granted an amnesty by the Bolivarian Government and by Chávez himself."

The news site recalls that María Corina Machado was received for almost an hour at the White House by George Bush on May 31, 2005."State media reported that meeting as a politically significant event, as it occurred in the context of strong tensions between Caracas and Washington," Telesur highlights.

Furthermore, they recall that in March 2014,"Machado attended the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) as Panama's 'alternate ambassador,' a position not recognized by Venezuelan diplomacy. At that meeting, she requested the activation of international mechanisms against the Venezuelan government, including an invasion."

To criticize the opposition leader, they also claim that"she has been implicated in cases related to the transfer of Venezuelan state assets to foreign entities." "Among the reported cases are Citgo, Monómeros, and the gold reserves deposited in the Bank of England. According to the Presidency of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, these losses have represented a substantial impact on public assets," they write.

They also mention last year's presidential elections, in which Maduro claimed victory without showing the ballots, something that even Cristina Kirchner, Lula Da Silva, President of Brazil, and Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia, demanded.

The award was also a signal for Donald Trump

"Machado pushed her candidacy despite the current disqualification. After the results were announced, in which she was not listed as a valid candidate, she instigated outbreaks of violence in various regions of the country. Various official security reports indicated the involvement of groups identified as 'comanditos' in this context," Telesur reported, referring to the opposition figures who collaborated in gathering the election records.

"According to national authorities, these individuals operated under political directives originating from sectors linked to Machado. The events included armed attacks, threats, destruction of infrastructure, and the murder of Chavista militants. In July and August 2025, investigations continued with arrests and the discovery of weapons, explosives, and communication systems intended to carry out large-scale attacks with numerous civilian casualties and destabilize the nation," they state.

Towards the end of the long text, they try to minimize the importance of the award."As for its connection with the Nobel Peace Prize, it has been awarded to figures with diverse political backgrounds. In 2009, it was awarded to the then-President of the United States, Barack Obama, whose foreign policy during his term included military operations in several countries," the Chavista outlet downplays.

Beyond the article published in Telesur, there has been no official communication from the dictatorship, nor from the regime's number two, Diosdado Cabello, who hosts a television program and news site"Con el Mazo Dando".
