An article on the US investigative news site “Crikey” said that minutes after Charlie Kirk was murdered by a (currently) unknown sniper, the blame game began among US right-wing figures, elected Republicans, the Kremlin’s attack dog, and even the US President who had no doubt: the “Left” was responsible.

While President Donald Trump initially called on the US public to pray for Kirk on receiving the news of the shooting, his language changed once news of his passing broke.

Speaking from the Oval Office later, Trump said: “For years those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism we’re seeing in our country – and it must stop right now. My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity.”

Shaun Maguire, former member of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), writing on X said, “The Left lectured us for the last decade about the dangers of violence from the Right… The danger was actually on the Left.”

Ten minutes later he added: “We’re not supposed to say this. But the truth is we’re at War.”

Tech billionaire and former head of DOGE, Elon Musk, reposted Maguires’ tweet on his X channel adding: “The Left is the party of murder.”

The former Russian president and current Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council chimed in on X that (of course) Ukraine was to blame: “Political crimes and assassinations have been carried out lately by a variety of left-wing liberal scum who support Banderite Kiev [sic]. Fico, Kirk. Who’s next? Maybe it’s time for the MAGA team to realize that by supporting Ukraine, they’re supporting murderers.”

The Russian news agency TASS also linked the assassination to Ukraine, implying that Kirk’s opposition may have contributed to the killing. It referred to a February posting on X, in which he said Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky had received “hundreds of billions of dollars in aid,” was “an ungrateful capricious child who is responsible for one million deaths,” and who should resign immediately “for the good of his country.”

South Carolina’s Republican representative Nancy Mace said in a video reposted on X by Leah V: “Democrats own what happened today,” along with Sean Davis, co-founder of the Republican legal group the Federalist Society who went even further: “The Democrat Party is a Domestic Terrorist Organization.”

Following a moment’s silence in Congress, Florida Republican representative Anna Paulina Luna once a close associate of Kirk, angrily pointed at Democrats shouting: “You all caused this.”

Laura Loomer a self-declared investigative journalist felt that a note of condolence posted by former Democratic president Barack Obama was “insincere” saying on X that “the rhetoric in the Democrat Party is what motivated this attack, you sanctimonious piece of sh*t… It’s people like you who gave rise to the radical left.”

The accusations pointed at an amorphous “Left” is a common charge made by Trump and his MAGA supporters, among whom Kirk was particularly vociferous. Investigations continue, but law enforcement officials have not released the identity of the suspect arrested immediately after the attack (but subsequently released) or any others who were involved.
