In the capital, the scene has been even more tense and scandalous, especially due to the political impact that the protests have triggered, given that several left-wing political leaders participated in them. Figures such as the Minister for Digital Transformation and Civil Service and leader of the PSM, Óscar López, also spoke out in favor of the pro-Palestinian boycott, indicating that the people of Madrid demonstrating against genocide does not damage the image of Spain, on the contrary, or Yolanda Díaz, among others, who assured that our citizens are an example of dignity.
Added to this are the statements made by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, during a PSOE event in Malaga on Sunday morning, September 14, in which the head of the Executive wanted to express respect and recognition to the athletes but, at the same time, said he felt proud of the actions in favor of just causes such as Palestine, which have taken place in recent days.
These positions have been controversial and criticized by some in Spain, including leaders of the Popular Party, who have blamed the president and some of his partners for what happened for showing support for the actions of the protesters and their boycott of La Vuelta.

One of the public figures who has expressed his opinion on the Prime Minister's position has been sports journalist Josep Pedrerol. The host of 'El Chiringuito de Jugones' focused on the ambiguity of Sánchez's words, which he wanted to show his respect for cyclists but also encourage protests against Israel.
For Pedrerol, these messages from the president are incompatible with each other and, with the Government's position, the journalist believes that the image of Spanish sport has been damaged.

With these words, Pedrerol conveyed his perception that, beyond supporting the Palestinian cause, the president and the government have not collaborated to ensure that the end of La Vuelta could take place normally, with the final marred by clashes between protesters and police, in addition to having deprived cyclists from carrying out their work and fans from enjoying this sport.
