Third consecutive final at Wimbledon. The London grass is increasingly becoming the home garden of Carlos Alcaraz. The Spanish champion has achieved his 20th consecutive victory at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club: it took four sets and a bit of suffering in the final tie-break to beat the American Taylor Fritz in the semifinals. He was the big favorite going into the tournament, after his amazing season on clay, the victory at Roland Garros and also the one at Queen’s : Alcaraz did not disappoint expectations. He plays stellar tennis that entertains the crowd and shocks his opponents:"This is my dream. And that's why I try to bring joy to the court," the Spaniard said after the match. A sort of manifesto of his style, for better or sometimes for worse.

The score of the semifinal read 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in two hours and 50 minutes. In short, not exactly a domination. In fact, Fritz had two chances to take the match to a fifth set : during the tie-break he was ahead 6-4, with a serve available. The American didn't take advantage of the opportunity and then Alcaraz closed the match. It was an overall balanced match, in which the world number 2 dominated only in the third set. But, as has often happened to him at this Wimbledon, the Spaniard never gave the impression of being in serious danger of losing the match.

A feeling that probably stems from his impressive winning streak on the grass of the most prestigious tournament in the world. Alcaraz, who is only 22, has already won it twice and is now aiming for a hat trick: he would join champions of the caliber of John Newcombe, John McEnroe, and Boris Becker, who have won three in their entire careers. Not only that, Alcaraz already has five Slam wins: a sixth Major victory would mean breaking away from Sinner (currently on three) and traveling at a pace only Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic have ever managed in tennis history. But before any of this discussion, there's a final to play, the outcome of which is far from certain.
