Russian troops have launched more than 3,100 drones, about 1,360 glide bombs and 92 missiles of various types into Ukraine in the past week, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday.

In a renewed effort to disrupt Ukraine's energy grid before winter arrives, Russia has carried out several large-scale missile and drone attacks on energy and gas facilities this week.

A nighttime attack on Friday led to widespread power outages in several regions. Civilian infrastructure was also hit, causing casualties in both Kyiv and the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions in the east of the country.

Zelensky said Russia is stepping up attacks as global attention shifts to the Middle East, where Israel and Hamas agreed this week on the first phase of a US-brokered peace plan, The Kyiv Independent writes.

"That is precisely why we cannot afford to ease the pressure," the president said.

"Sanctions, tariffs and joint actions against buyers of Russian oil – those who finance this war – must remain in place."

Earlier this week, Zelensky warned that Russian citizens would suffer power outages if Moscow tried to impose them on Ukraine.

A Ukrainian attack already damaged power facilities in the Russian city of Belgorod on October 5, leaving nearly 40,000 residents without electricity.

Ukraine has also stepped up its attacks on Russian oil refineries, hitting at least 16 of Russia's 38 facilities since August 2025, according to the Financial Times. The attacks have pushed diesel exports to their lowest levels in 2020.
