The People's Party (PP) has besieged the government with 30 questions about the use of public buildings as brothels by Sánchez's father-in-law.

Thursday, July 10

In a"joint action" in Congress and the Senate, the PP is besieging the Government with thirty written questions to force the Executive to give"explanations" for "the use of public buildings as brothels by the father-in-law of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez."

Pandora's box opened by Alberto Núñez Feijóo during yesterday's appearance by the Prime Minister on corruption, the PP is diving headfirst into the matter with initiatives in Congress and the Senate to find out"to what extent Pedro Sánchez benefited from the repugnant business of prostitution." The way to dig deeper, for now, is through written questions, which the Executive must answer. In them, the PP demands"collaboration" and "transparency."

In the case of Congress, the series of 18 questions presented deals with the rental of properties from MUFACE to the family of the president's wife, Begoña Gómez, which the PP suspects may have been spaces that"could have been used for activities related to prostitution, sexual exploitation or human trafficking."

In a press release, the People's Party (PP) explains that it is requesting the"criteria" taken into account to "review or renegotiate" the lease contracts for these properties and questions whether the government was aware of the use being put to the rented properties.

Specifically, the Popular Party is demanding information on"the lease agreements signed by MUFACE for properties it owns, as well as to account for the actual use of said properties by third parties and the control and oversight mechanisms applied by said entity to prevent contractual deviations or irregular uses of public property for activities related to prostitution, sexual exploitation, or human trafficking."

"The truth may be very harsh, but it is even harsher to have a government that hires prostitutes with public money and is surrounded by corruption," said Ester Muñoz, the new Popular Party spokesperson in Congress.

In parallel, the People's Party (PP) has filed a request for the Minister of Digital Transformation and Public Service, Óscar López, who is responsible for MUFACE, to appear before the court. However, given the majority in the House, this request has fewer chances of success.

The PP admits it has been pursuing this issue for some time, although Feijóo has only now brought it up for parliamentary debate, because last April he filed another series of questions about the rental of MUFACE properties. The government responded on that occasion in a"vague and imprecise" manner, according to the PP, and"did not provide any specific information." "The government simply stated that the rental of MUFACE properties is governed by current regulations," it specifies.

As for the Senate, the People's Party (PP) has submitted another fifteen written questions to the government. In statements made by the PP, the spokesperson in the House, Alicia García, emphasizes that there are"many indications" that lead Spaniards to believe that the Prime Minister "took advantage of prostitution." "We demand clarification on whether public resources were used for this," she concludes.

The Senate's questions delve into, among other things, the list of MUFACE properties that have been rented over the past 10 years, identifying the tenants, contract dates, duration, and amounts. It also asks how many are currently rented and to whom.

The People's Party (PP) wants to find out"which MUFACE body or unit is responsible for managing the real estate assets it owns, whether asset audits or reviews by the Court of Auditors have been conducted, as well as which body makes decisions and what procedure is followed for making decisions on the leasing of MUFACE-owned premises."

It also requests information on whether "there have been any transfers or acquisitions of properties by MUFACE in recent years," and also requests the "identification of the legal transactions involving the purchase or sale, as well as the leasing of these, with details of the transaction amounts, dates, and identification of the sellers, buyers, tenants, or landlords, if any."
