This is Swiatek's sixth Grand Slam title. The Polish player won four of her previous five titles at Roland Garros. It's the first title in 2025 for Swiatek, who was long the world number one but has slipped to fourth. At Wimbledon, the Polish player was seeded eighth.

The Wimbledon final was a first for both Swiatek and Anisimova. Swiatek had not advanced beyond the quarterfinals in previous years. Anisimova also reached the quarterfinals on the London grass in 2022. The American did not participate in the two subsequent editions. In the semifinal last Thursday, the world number 12 surprised Aryna Sabalenka in a long three-setter, reaching the final of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.

Very painful afternoon at Wimbledon

Swiatek shot out of the blocks. The whipped cream had barely been scraped off the strawberries when the Polish player took a 5-0 lead in the opening set. In fact, it turned into a disaster, as the score read 6-0 after less than half an hour. Anisimova won only nine points in the entire first set.

It just kept going. Swiatek completely took the shine off the final and went up 2-0 in the second set. Swiatek then went to a double break. What a painful afternoon in London for Anisimova. Surely she'll win at least one game?

The American's few points earned loud applause from the British crowd. Or was it pity? The score went to 6-0 and 5-0. And this in a Grand Slam final. Swiatek showed no mercy, taking the set, the match, and the tournament with another 6-0 victory. Tennis icon Billie Jean King, who sat in the stands next to Princess Catherine, defeated Australian Evonne Goolagong 6-0, 6-1 in 1975.

Response Swiatek

Swiatek had never dreamed of a Wimbledon title before, because, she felt, it was so far away."This feels a bit surreal. I already feel like an experienced player after winning Grand Slams, but I really didn't expect this one," said the 24-year-old Pole after winning her sixth Grand Slam title, but her first in London.

Swiatek achieved a first in the professional era of tennis since 1968 by defeating her opponent Anisimova 6-0, 6-0."First of all, I want to congratulate Amanda on two fantastic weeks. Regardless of what happened here today, you can be proud of what you've accomplished and the work you've done here," she told the 23-year-old American, who was in her first Grand Slam final.

The Polish player had previously won Roland Garros four times and the US Open in 2022. At Wimbledon, she had not reached the quarterfinals in 2023. Swiatek had not yet won a tournament this calendar year. She thanked her team and coach, with whom she is working this year."We showed everyone today that it works," she said.

Swiatek said she felt the pressure most at Wimbledon during her previous appearances."There's no tournament like this. Playing on Centre Court always felt like a lot of pressure, but this year I really enjoyed it. I'll always remember the sound of champagne bottles being popped between serves."

Crying Anisimova apologizes for failed final

Anisimova couldn't hold back her tears in her speech after losing the final. The 23-year-old American apologized for her failed final."Even though I was a little low on energy today and I wish I could have performed better for you, you supported me," she thanked the London crowd.

Anisimova was in her first Grand Slam final after defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. She felt supported by her family, who had flown in, and thanked her mother, who had been so instrumental in her career."Thank you for being here today and putting an end to the superstition of not coming. That's not why I lost here."

Despite the heavy defeat, Anisimova said she will never forget the tournament."I know I couldn't perform well today, but I'll keep working and hope to be back here one day."

The women's final between Swiatek and Anisimova took place under the watchful eye of Kate Middleton. The princess is battling cancer, but has been making more and more public appearances in recent months.
