Officials said a call about the blast was received around 6:55 pm, following which seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot

An explosion was reported in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Sunday evening, causing a fire that spread to three to four nearby vehicles, according to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
Officials told CNN-News18 that a call about the blast was received around 6:55 pm, following which seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control in a short time.
While several vehicles sustained damage in the incident, no injuries have been reported so far, DFS confirmed to CNN-News18.
“So far, we have not received any reports of casualties," said Abhilash Kumar Malik, a top official of the Delhi Fire Services.
The exact cause of the explosion, which triggered panic in the area, is yet to be determined.
The incident occurred just hours after police uncovered an interstate terror module allegedly linked to banned organisations and seized more than 2,900 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate. This included 360 kg recovered earlier and an additional 2,500 kg of the explosive substance.
Officials said the group had allegedly plotted to unleash terror in Delhi using hundreds of powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) made from the recovered material.
Forensic experts are inspecting the site, while police have sealed off the area and initiated an investigation to determine whether any foul play was involved.
Top intelligence sources told CNN-News18 that it was too early to draw conclusions about the incident, adding that a blast appears unlikely at this stage.
Officials noted that no crater was found near the site, suggesting the possibility of a vehicle malfunction or fire rather than an explosion.
However, they maintained that all angles remain open and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause.
