Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation that lasted about an hour. The details of the conversation were shared on behalf of the Kremlin by Putin’s aide Yuriy Ushakov.   According to Ushakov, the meeting took place in a very “harmonious, constructive and concrete” atmosphere.

The two leaders discussed Iran and the Middle East. According to a statement from the Kremlin, Putin said his country was ready to continue negotiations.

In the statement, it was stated that Trump brought up the issue of ending military conflicts in Ukraine as soon as possible. Putin informed Trump in the phone conversation that they would not give up on the goal of eliminating the root causes of the Ukraine crisis.

Putin emphasized the importance of resolving crises in the Middle East through political and diplomatic means. The Russian leader congratulated Trump on July 4 Independence Day and touched on Russia's contributions to the formation of the American state.
