FBI Director Kesh Patel said investigators have found DNA evidence that directly links suspect Tyler Robinson, who was arrested last week, to the murder of far-right activist Charlie Kirk.
The head of the Bureau said this on Monday during an appearance on Fox News, Ukrinform reports.
"Today, I can report that DNA samples from the towel that was used to wrap the firearm, as well as DNA from the screwdriver, have tested positive for the suspect in custody," the FBI director said.
It is noted that Robinson continues to refuse to cooperate with the investigation.
Meanwhile, new details of the incident have emerged. Police say Robinson jumped from a rooftop minutes after the shooting and then fled the university campus where the killing took place, running through a wooded area to a nearby neighborhood. He reportedly left his gun, wrapped in a towel, in the woods.
Robinson is currently under special supervision by Utah authorities.
As Ukrinform reported, far-right American activist Charlie Kirk was fatally wounded on September 10 during an event by the radical right-wing organization Turning Point USA at Utah Valley University. Law enforcement officers identified the suspect in the murder as 22-year-old Utah resident Tyler Robinson. He was arrested on September 12.
