Anti-Trump Protests

That's what it's about

  • US President Trump is in Great Britain for a state visit.
  • The British royal family welcomed him at Windsor Castle.
  • Prince William and Princess Catherine greeted him first.

Britain's heir to the throne, William, and his wife Kate welcomed US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania to Windsor Castle. Trump's state visit is being held there, isolated from the public. The Prince and Princess of Wales stood by the presidential helicopter and greeted the Trumps.

The four then walked to the palace, where King Charles III and Queen Camilla were waiting. A long handshake followed between Trump and Charles. Melania wore a hat that obscured part of her face, including her eyes, similar to the one worn at Trump's inauguration.

Trump's second state visit to Great Britain

This is President Trump's second state visit to the United Kingdom; he previously visited in 2019 during his first term in office. Trump plans to spend time with his friend King Charles, whom he mistakenly referred to by his former title of"Prince" before leaving Washington. Talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer are planned for Thursday, including trade.

Trump's label faux pas

After Donald Trump repeatedly violated etiquette during his visits there during his first term in office, everyone is eagerly awaiting his behavior this time. And lo and behold, the US president quickly violated royal protocol again: Trump walked in front of King Charles III as the two walked past the guard. By law, only the king can decide to walk beside him, but under no circumstances in front of him.

Hier verstösst Trump gegen das königliche Protokoll: Es ist nicht vorgesehen, dass er als Gast vor König Charles III. läuft.
Here Trump is violating royal protocol: He is not supposed to walk before King Charles III as a guest.

The previous evening, there had been an embarrassing moment for security personnel at Windsor Castle. Critics managed to project a massive light installation on the scandal surrounding sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019, onto a castle tower – an extremely uncomfortable topic for Trump. In the US, pressure has grown on the Republican to release all the files on the case, in which Epstein systematically sexually abused minors over many years. Epstein had excellent contacts in American high society, which gave rise to speculation.
