The German basketball team has won the final of the European Championship. The team defeated Turkey 88-83 in a dramatic final in Riga. Dennis Schröder and Isaac Bonga were particularly impressive.

The German basketball team is European champion. Two years after winning the World Cup in Manila, Dennis Schröder's team won the final in Riga against Turkey 88-83 (40-46), completing a rare title double.

Isaac Bonga stood out for the German team with 20 points. Schröder added crucial points in the closing stages. Germany has won all nine matches at the European Championship. In front of 11,000 spectators – including German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier – in the sold-out arena, interim national coach Alan Ibrahimagic's team held its nerve after a weak start.

Third medal in four years

Ibrahimígic represented head coach Alex Mumbru at the European Championships, who was initially hospitalized after an abdominal illness and was visibly weakened afterward. Mumbru remained with the team but relinquished responsibility during the games. After bronze at the 2022 European Championship and the 2023 World Cup title, this was the third medal in four years.

At the Olympic Games in Paris, Schröder and his team finished fourth. The next major tournament is the World Cup in Qatar in the summer of 2027. Greece had previously secured bronze at the European Championship with a victory over Finland.
