The United States of America is introducing new sanctions regarding the Russian Federation. They will affect the Russian companies Rosneft and Lukoil.

This is reported on website The US Treasury Department notes that the restrictions are being imposed due to Russia's lack of serious commitment to the peace process to end the war in Ukraine.

“Now is the time to stop the killing and declare an immediate ceasefire. In light of President Putin’s refusal to end this senseless war, the Treasury Department is imposing sanctions on two of Russia’s largest oil companies that fund the Kremlin’s war machine. The Treasury Department stands ready to take additional action if necessary to support President Trump’s efforts to end another war. We urge our allies to join us in upholding these sanctions,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant.

It is noted that, in addition to Rosneft and Lukoil, the sanctions will affect companies that are directly or indirectly owned by these giants by 50% or more, even if they are not directly included in the sanctions list. These are 28 subsidiaries of Rosneft and 6 of Lukoil.

Recall that earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant announced a significant increase in sanctions against Russia. He emphasized that the new restrictions would be among the largest sanctions the US has imposed against Russia.

Reuters reports that ambassadors of European Union member states have agreed on a new, already 19th package of sanctions regarding the Russian Federation.

This package of restrictions includes a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The final text was agreed last week. The only country that did not agree to it was Slovakia. However, the country's demands were met thanks to new points added to the final communiqué of the EU leaders' summit.
