During negotiations with a Russian dictator in Alaska, the US president Donald Trump hopes to achieve"some cessation of hostilities" between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, quoted by CNN.

"The longer these wars go on, the harder it is to stop them. That's the reality of ongoing fighting, which is why a ceasefire is so critical," he said.

Rubio also noted that to achieve peace,"there has to be some conversation about security guarantees, there has to be some conversation about territorial disputes and claims, and what they're fighting for."

At the same time, he emphasized that the agreement of both Russia and Ukraine would be required to conclude a peace agreement.

Rubio also repeated Trump's earlier thesis that it would become clear at an early stage of the meeting with Putin"whether something is possible or not."

"We'll see how the situation develops tomorrow," he added.
