Bayern Munich were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup, losing 2-0 to Paris St. Germain in Atlanta, USA, in front of 66,937 fans. The Champions League winner's semifinal opponent on Wednesday (9 p.m.) in East Rutherford is the winner of Real Madrid's match against Borussia Dortmund.
But after the final whistle, NO ONE cares! There's only one topic: the horrific injury to Jamal Musiala (22)!
What happened?
In first-half stoppage time (45+3), Pacho blocks the German in his own penalty area. Donnarumma comes out, grabs the ball, and buries the Munich player's left foot under his hip. Even as he lands, it's clear that his ankle is abnormally protruding. When Paris' goalkeeper sees this, he immediately puts his hands over his face.
Kimmich, Coman, and Olise, who see the foot, are also stunned. Supporters and doctors rush to the scene immediately. Kimmich offers Musiala some encouragement, and PSG captain Marquinhos also leans over to the international. Shortly afterwards, referee Taylor (England) blows his whistle for halftime. Musiala is stretchered off the field. In the catacombs, he pulls his shirt over his face. A diagnosis has not yet been made. One thing is clear: Musiala will be out for a long time!
About the match: Both teams gave it their all. Doué (2'), Ruiz (22'), and Kvaratskhelia (32') missed the best chances for Paris. At the other end, Olise (6'/27') and Kane (38') missed the chance to take the lead. The goal came in stoppage time, but goalscorer Upamecano was clearly offside when the pass was passed to him (45'+2'). Seconds later, the Musiala drama!
After the break, Gnabry replaced the injured international. Bayern were still reeling from the serious injury. Barcola (49') was denied by Neuer. The goalkeeper then made a massive mistake that Dembélé couldn't capitalize on (74'). Shortly after, Bayern's flirt Doué (who has been on the record champions' wish list several times in the past) did better.
► 78th minute: Kane loses the ball to Kvaratskhelia. The ball goes through Joao Neves and lands at Doué. He cuts inside and scores with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, bottom right. 1-0 for Paris! The goal for the semi-finals!
Bayern are out. Müller's substitution in the 80th minute doesn't change that. For the club legend, his time at Bayern ends in Atlanta. He will leave Munich after the tournament, after 25 years.
After Pacho's sending off (81'/red for a foul on Goretzka), Bayern pressed on again. Kane even seemed to equalize, but he too was offside when the pass was passed (87'). In stoppage time, former Bayern player Hernández also saw red for an elbow on Guerreiro (90+2).
Dembélé hits the crossbar again and seconds later seals the victory – 2-0 for Paris (90+6). Was that it? No! At the other end, Taylor awards a penalty after a challenge by Nuno Mendes on Müller. The referee looks at the move – and revokes the penalty (90+11).
