Even about six days after the outbreak of the war between Iran and Israel, the question marks outweigh the exclamation marks. It is worth remembering that Israel has not faced a campaign against a sovereign state – and even less so against a regional power, even if weakened – in decades. On the other hand, Iran has not faced such a complex reality since the Iran-Iraq War. The implication is clear: it is difficult to predict how things will develop and what the long-term consequences of the campaign will be for decision-making in Tehran. What can already be determined is that the assessments that were valid until about a week ago are not necessarily relevant today. Therefore, all the basic assumptions that seemed reasonable until the outbreak of the conflict must be reexamined.

El Al announced after the press conference by Transportation Minister Miri Regev, in which she said that the authority to force companies to fly passengers on Shabbat is reserved solely for the Minister of Defense, that it will operate emergency medical flights this coming Shabbat, with the approval of the Chief Rabbis of Israel."The list of passengers includes El Al passengers and passengers of other companies who urgently need to arrive in Israel and were approved by a senior professor who ran leading medical centers in Israel, and who defined the cases as life-saving or life-saving," El Al said."The flights will be free of charge for all approved passengers. At this stage, there are three flights; if additional flights are needed, El Al will operate to add them."

An analysis of satellite imagery conducted by the Bloomberg news agency indicates that Iran has been working feverishly in recent days to remove its oil reserves from its territory. This, according to the report, is so that Tehran can continue to reap profits from the precious resource while Israel operates throughout the Islamic Republic - and in the shadow of fears that the United States will join the extensive strike operation. According to the report, Iran is removing the oil from ports to tankers at sea. However, it was reported that Kharj Island - the world's largest oil terminal located near and owned by the country - is still full of oil.

CNN reported that US President Donald Trump's national security team arrived at the White House - ahead of a security briefing in the Situation Room. According to the report, Vice President J.D. Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hasegawa, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff arrived at the area where the briefing was to take place - about an hour before its estimated start."The White House described the meeting as an 'intelligence briefing,' but the fact that it was held in the Situation Room suggests that these are more sensitive discussions than the usual daily intelligence update, which usually takes place in the Oval Office," the report said.

The body of the late Maria Peshkurova was found among the rubble in Bat Yam, four days after an Iranian missile hit the building where she was staying with her family - who were also killed. Peshkurova, 31, is the ninth victim at the fatal scene. She was killed alongside her 7-year-old daughter Nastya from the Iranian missile strike, Nastya's grandmother, Lena Peshkurova (60), and her two maternal cousins - Konstantin Tutevich (9) and Ilya Peshkurov (13). The family came from Odessa, Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar attacked his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi: "You are lying! I was just at Soroka Hospital with dozens of international journalists, and they saw with their own eyes the brutal results of your regime's missile attack on a civilian hospital that treats Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike," he wrote on the X network."No artificial intelligence lies, no fake maps will change the facts. Your barbarity is exposed to the world."

Reuters news agency reported, citing three diplomatic sources, that the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, spoke by phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi"several times" since Operation "Am Kalavi" began. This, according to the report, was in order to find a"diplomatic solution to the crisis."

A Middle Eastern diplomat close to Tehran told Reuters that Araqchi told Witkoff that the Islamic Republic "might show flexibility on the nuclear issue" if the United States pressured Israel to end the war. Another diplomat said that"the first conversation was initiated by Washington."

The IDF spokesman reported that the head of the Intelligence Directorate - Major General Shlomi Binder - visited yesterday the unit that coordinates the preparation of targets for attacks in Iran, and said that"already on the first night of the operation, we hit the IDF very hard, on the order of 30 commanders - we are talking about chiefs of staff, air force commanders." According to him,"Two days ago we managed to attack their secret headquarters (Iran - 17) in the mountains, some of the commanders managed to escape from there to another place. 12 hours after that, we managed to attack Chief of Staff Hatem al-Anbiya, who fled to the same place in the mountains on another ridge in Tehran, with excellent work by the IDF and the headquarters personnel."

"We need to hunt them down wherever they flee to, and you manage to turn Iran from some distant place, 1,500 kilometers from here, into an army that we know how to deal with with a first-circle feeling," Binder continued."You brought this third circle to be the first circle. And your ability to bring quality targets in the coming days - is dramatic. You need to bring a lot, increase the pace, and that's exactly what we're doing - because this is the kind of threat that I'm telling you, the State of Israel cannot live with. Period. That's why we went on the campaign and that's why you're working hard."

Iran's mission to the UN rejected Israel's "false accusations regarding the attack on Soroka Hospital." According to the Iranians,"Our self-defense measures are precise and consistent with international law. We only target facilities involved in attacks against us. Iran acts in accordance with international law and does not target civilians or civilian infrastructure."

The Supreme National Security Council in Tehran said earlier that "Iran will continue to respond in a similar manner to the Israeli attacks. To any Israeli attack that is carried out in a different manner, Iran will also respond in a different manner. If any third party intervenes in the Israeli attacks against Iran, it will receive an immediate response without any hesitation." The Iranians also claimed that there were no casualties in the Israeli attack on the Arak nuclear reactor this morning.

Yehuda Cohen, the father of kidnapped soldier Nimrod Cohen, attacked Prime Minister Netanyahu for the words he said from the scene of the attack in Soroka, according to which his family and he are paying heavy personal prices as a result of the war."After I finished shedding crocodile tears over the tragedy of the Netanyahu family, I gathered my thoughts and came to the amazing conclusion that Avraham (Avner) Netanyahu can actually get married in a shelter under the rabbinate building," Yehuda said.

"But my son Nimrod Cohen, an armored soldier who was kidnapped on October 7th from the broken tank provided to him and his crew, not only can he not get married - he can't breathe, he can't see daylight and has been in danger of death for more than 20 months. And all this because of the happy groom's father, Benjamin 'I don't remember' Netanyahu, who to this day is still afraid of flip-flops and is not willing to end the war in Gaza to free my son, because he - Netanyahu - is afraid of the convicted terrorist aide Ben Gvir and the arsonist Smotrich. Netanyahu, stop whining, stop being afraid, and end the war in Gaza for the sake of freeing my son Nimrod the soldier. Or resign."

Vicky and Yehuda Cohen (Photo: Yariv Katz)

Vicky Cohen, Nimrod's mother, also criticized the Prime Minister in a tweet she posted on the X network: Prime Minister, I'm sure it's unpleasant to cancel a wedding, but... 622 days that I haven't slept a whole night. 622 days that I'm afraid of a knock on the door. 622 days that there's not a day that I haven't cried my life away. 622 days that there's not a day that I haven't had an anxiety attack. 622 days that I'm having trouble eating. It's time for you to put an end to our nightmare!"

Ynet has learned that 5,110 people have been defined as homeless by the Interior Ministry since the outbreak of the war with Iran. According to the Interior Ministry, all of them are receiving accommodation from the state in hotels and homes in the community.

Most of the homeless come from Ramat Gan (955) and Petah Tikva (945), two of the hardest-hit and deadliest areas of the war so far. 812 come from Bat Yam, which also suffered fatal damage to several buildings in its area this week, while Tel Aviv has 907 new homeless people due to rocket fire on their homes that were damaged. In Bnei Brak, 550 people are defined as homeless due to the attacks on the city, while 368 residents of Rehovot also fell into the category.

The Interior Ministry expects an increase in funding for municipalities that were affected during the war, with the current discussion revolving around additional aid of over 8 million shekels for municipalities with homeless people, and over two million shekels to be distributed over time to the homeless.

Russia is calling on Israel to immediately stop airstrikes on the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southwestern Iran, where Russian experts work. This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed last night that"we have workers at the Bushehr nuclear reactor in Iran, and we have agreed with Israel that their safety will be guaranteed." Bushehr, the only nuclear power plant operating in Iran, uses Russian fuel that Moscow takes back after it is depleted - in order to reduce the risk of nuclear weapons proliferation.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova issued the call - and also repeated the Russian warning to the US not to intervene militarily in the war between Israel and Iran."This will have negative and unpredictable consequences," she said.

Education Minister Yoav Kish announced the postponement of the matriculation exams scheduled for next week, the extra week. He presented three possible scenarios: holding the exams after the postponement, as long as the security situation allows; postponing them to early September, when six concentrated exam days would be held; and converting the defense scores into final matriculation scores - and canceling the external exams.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education will ask schools to immediately transfer the final scores of the remaining and postponed matriculation exams, as part of preparations for a situation in which it will be decided to convert the matriculation exams into final scores.

Following the severe damage to Soroka Hospital, which led to the paralysis of the only super medical center in the south of the country, the Ministry of Health instructed hospital administrators to work to minimize the number of patients.

Among other things, they were instructed to prepare to discharge mothers within 12 hours after birth - instead of the current 36 hours for a normal birth and 48 hours for a cesarean section. This is according to a letter sent by the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sefi Mendelovich, to hospital and health fund managers, which was obtained by Ynet.

Defense Minister Israel Katz arrived at the scene of the crash in Holon, and for the first time explicitly threatened to eliminate Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader."A dictator like Khamenei, who heads Iran and has engraved on his banner the destruction of Israel - cannot continue to exist."

Katz called Khamenei a "modern Hitler," adding: "He has great ideological influence, he uses all his resources for the cause, and today we see proof that he gives orders to shoot at hospitals. We see that he should not be on the agenda." The Defense Minister added: "We need to understand the significance, he has been a sole leader for years. He must not exist, alongside the objectives of the operation, until it is carried out. This thing of preventing his existence is one of the objectives of the operation."

The overthrow of the ayatollah regime has not yet happened, but the West is already examining the claimants to the throne. The Shah's son, who has lived in exile for 46 years, is interested in the position, although it is doubtful whether anyone in Iran is interested in him. The protest movements offer hope, but at present the young men and women are not filling the squares. The minorities are also waiting for the day the regime is overthrown. There is, of course, the possibility that Khamenei will survive, and Israel will be forced to deal with his son, who is as extremist as he is.

After the barrage from Iran, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote that"Iran's terrorist tyrants launched missiles at Soroka Hospital in Beersheba and at a civilian population in the center of the country." He threatened: "We will exact the full price from the tyrants in Tehran."

President Yitzhak Herzog also addressed the direct harm done to Soroka, saying:"A baby in intensive care and his caring mother at his bedside, a dedicated doctor who goes from patient to patient, an elderly woman in a nursing home - these were Iran's targets." According to him,"Soroka is one of the best hospitals in Israel. The dedicated hospital staff - both Jews and Arabs - work there in extraordinary harmony, united in the sacred mission - saving lives from all religions, beliefs and lifestyles - Jews and Muslims, Israelis and Palestinians. We remember well the magnitude of the hour and the values of humanity and humanity, the values of civilization, which are being attacked by a jihadist regime that seeks to destroy us."

The IDF attacked the Arak nuclear reactor, which contains the reactor containment structure - a key component in plutonium production. This was confirmed by an IDF spokesman, who added that 40 fighter jets attacked dozens of military targets overnight with more than 100 munitions.

The attack was carried out on the component intended for the production of plutonium, thus preventing its ability to be used again for the production of nuclear weapons, it was reported. The Air Force also attacked a site used for the development of nuclear weapons in Natanz, where unique components and equipment used for the development of nuclear weapons are located, and projects are being developed there that enable the acceleration of the nuclear weapons program.

(Photo: IDF Spokesperson)

The IDF reported that construction of the reactor began in 1997, but was not completed due to the intervention of the international community. The reactor was intended to produce high-grade plutonium, which would allow for the acquisition of nuclear weapons, and in light of various agreements,"In recent years, the Iranian regime has promoted its conversion to one with a low plutonium production potential that does not allow for the acquisition of nuclear weapons," an IDF spokesman said."The regime deliberately ordered not to complete the conversion, which would have prevented its use for nuclear weapons, in order to create pressure on the West."

The Ministry of Health has instructed other hospitals to prepare to receive patients from Soroka Hospital, with patients expected to be transferred to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon and Assuta Hospital in Ashdod, among others. One of the damaged buildings in Soroka was evacuated yesterday.

A worker at the scene said: "It's lucky we evacuated one of the wards yesterday, otherwise there wouldn't have been a ward. The ceiling fell on us, the blast threw me off. Until you experience something like this, you don't believe it could happen, it's impossible to digest something like this. The patients in the wards are being evacuated." Meanwhile, the suspicion of a leak of hazardous materials on an upper floor at Soroka Hospital was ruled out.

We heard the alarm and went to the stairwell - the protected area. Suddenly we heard an abnormal boom, things were flying. The ceiling was flying."

An IDF spokesman said that "the Air Force has now begun a wave of attacks in Tehran and other areas in Iran." The targets, mainly in Tehran and its west, are weapons caches, missile launchers, and other military targets.

Later, IDF spokesman Maj. Gen. (res.) Kamel Pinhasi issued an"urgent" evacuation warning for workers and residents in the area of the IR-40 nuclear reactor near the city of Arak, which is powered by heavy water. The IDF statement did not specifically mention the reactor, but it and its surroundings were circled.

"The IDF continues to operate in the area, as it has done in recent days throughout Iran, to attack the Iranian regime's military infrastructure," it said."Dear citizens, for your safety and well-being - we ask you to immediately evacuate the marked area, according to the map. Your presence in this area endangers your lives."

The heavy water reactor at Arak is located 240 kilometers west of the capital Tehran. Heavy water, we note, helps cool nuclear reactors, but it produces plutonium as a byproduct that could potentially be used for nuclear weapons. This could provide the Iranians with another route to a bomb, beyond enriching uranium, if Tehran chooses to do so.

Iran agreed under the 2015 nuclear deal to redesign the facility to ease concerns that it could develop into a bomb. In 2019, Iran began operating the second cycle of its heavy water reactor, which at the time was not in violation of the 2015 deal. Britain helped redesign the Arak reactor at the time to limit the amount of plutonium it produced, thereby acting on behalf of the United States, which withdrew from the deal in 2018 during Trump's first term. A Fox News poll found that while most Democrats (69%), Republicans (82%) and independent voters (62%) agree that Iran poses a real threat, they are divided on whether Israel should strike Iran. According to the poll, 49% support strikes, compared to 46% who oppose them. Republicans (73%) are more likely than Democrats (32%) and independents (32%) to support strikes.

At the same time, a small demonstration is taking place outside the White House tonight against Israel's war on Iran, and against American participation in it.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said:"We will attend every meeting and clarify the facts - Israel not only defended itself, it removed a serious threat from the entire free world. Russian President Vladimir Putin has made his first statement on the war between Israel and Iran - almost a week after a surprise attack in Operation Kalavi. The president, who maintains close relations with Iran, said he was in contact with US President Donald Trump and Israel about the situation. He said Russia had presented a framework for an agreement to Iran, Israel and the US, but insisted:"We are not imposing anything on anyone."

According to him,"Iranian society is united around its political leadership. The right thing would be to find ways for the fighting to stop and for there to be an agreement regarding Iran." Putin emphasized that "it is important to maintain Israel's security as well as Iran's security," and revealed: "We have workers at the Bushehr nuclear reactor, and we agreed with Israel that their security will be guaranteed."

The Russian president also said that his country and the Islamic Republic "can continue to work with nuclear energy," and that "the decision on the situation should be made first and foremost by Iran and Israel."
