The storm that hit Serbia this afternoon caused havoc in many cities. Uprooted trees, damaged cars, destroyed gardens of catering establishments - these are just some of the consequences of the strong winds that swept across numerous cities in Serbia.

Lightning struck a tree, a fire broke out in Gornji Milanovac

Gornji Milanovac - During the afternoon in the territory of the municipality of Gornji Milanovac on the Maljen mountain, there was a strong storm, and during the storm, lightning struck a tree and caused a big fire.

- It suddenly flared up, the fire spread with lightning speed. The tree caught fire from a lightning strike and then it started to spread, because everything is dry as powder. We are afraid that the fire will not reach the houses, locals told RINU.

Members of the Voluntary Fire Brigade from Pranjan immediately went to the field, but help also arrived from the fire brigade from Čačak.

Horror in Požarevac

A supercell storm in Požarevac caused chaos. a strong wind toppled the pole and snapped the cables which started sparking.

Požarevac was hit by hurricane-force winds as part of a storm system that arrived from the Šumadija district. The radar records gusts of over 30 m/s. The weather station recorded a pressure disturbance of 5 hPa, on the basis of which the estimated wind gusts in the area reached ~130 km/h, it is written on the Instagram page"192_rs"

In this city, cafe gardens were also destroyed by the strength of the wind.

The videos show how, due to the force of the wind, the tree canopy broke and destroyed the chairs and tables in the cafes in Požarevac.

Due to the strong wind and storm that swept through Kragujevac, a tree fell in the Bubanj neighborhood, as well as in Cara Lazar Street.

Warning for Belgrade

The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia (RHMZ) has just issued a storm warning in Belgrade, and the first showers have already started to fall in some parts of the capital.

- In the next two hours in the wider area of Belgrade with local showers and thunderstorms, especially in the southern and eastern parts of the city - it is stated in the RHMZ warning.

Stronger storm in Serbia tonight

According to RHMZ, in the evening and during the following night it will be cloudy with rain, showers and thunder. Weather disasters are also expected in some places: heavy showers with thunder, hail and short-term strong and stormy north-west wind in the zone of the most intense showers, primarily in the north and west of Serbia.
