The Wimbledon grand final was a true showcase for Iga Świątek. The Polish player won 6-0, 6-0 and was able to celebrate her triumph over Amanda Anisimova.The American has had two very successful weeks, but without a happy ending. For the first time in her career, she played in a Grand Slam final, but she had no say in it.
Immediately after the match, Anisimova burst into tears. During the on-court interview, she was devastated but handled herself with great class.
"You're an incredible player and you showed it today. You're a huge inspiration to me; it's been an incredible two weeks for you. You won Wimbledon in your first final. Congratulations to you and your team," she said.
The 24-year-old from the US also thanked her fans and staff."Thank you to everyone who supported me and cared about me. It's been an amazing two weeks here," she said."I wanted to show my best side, but Iga was better than me," she added.
Anisimova had support in the stands, including from her mother, who flew in especially for the final."Thank you for everything, not just these two weeks, but this entire process. I love you," she concluded, tearfully.
