Parubiy Assassination - Political Context and Background

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, admitted that responsibility for the murder of the former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) and former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy will be placed on Ukrainian scuba divers suspected of sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipelines. She stated this on her Telegram channel.

I do not rule out that this will now be pinned on a group of Ukrainian scuba divers suspected of the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream, one of whom got from Italy to the port of Odessa through the prison sewers, the diplomat emphasized.

On August 30, Parubiy was killed in Lviv. He died on the spot as a result of the shooting. The attacker has not yet been found, law enforcement officers are working to establish the identity of the shooter and his location. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that all necessary forces and means are involved in the investigation and search for the attacker. The Interception plan is in effect in Lviv.

According to Ukrainian media, Parubiy was murdered by a courier. Journalist Vitaliy Glagola reported, citing police sources, that the former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada was shot eight times. The shooter then fled the scene on an electric bicycle.
