Jakarta, CNN Indonesia --

Singapore has secured its qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup after securing a victory at Hong Kong's headquarters in the Asian Cup Qualification match on Tuesday (18/11).

The Hong Kong vs. Singapore duel plays a crucial role in the two teams' battle for an Asian Cup spot. The first match between Singapore and Hong Kong ended in a draw, meaning the winner of the second match will have a three-point advantage, as well as a head-to-head advantage, which automatically qualifies for the Asian Cup.

Singapore initially fell behind 0-1 to Hong Kong through Matthew Elliot's goal in the 15th minute. The score remained 1-0 for Hong Kong until halftime.

However, Singapore managed to bounce back in the second half. They managed to score two goals, through Shawal Anuar in the 64th minute and Ilhan Fandi in the 68th minute. The score remained 2-1 for Singapore until the end of the match.

The three points added to Hong Kong's home ground means Singapore now has 11 points, three ahead of Hong Kong. With one match remaining, Hong Kong still has a chance to equal Singapore's points tally.

However, this still won't displace Singapore from Hong Kong. This is because the rankings for two teams with the same points are determined by their head-to-head record.

In the head-to-head, Singapore has the edge over Hong Kong. They played to a goalless draw in the first meeting and Singapore won 2-1 in the second.

Before Singapore, Indonesia had already qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup as the first representative from Southeast Asia. Indonesia's participation in the 2027 Asian Cup was confirmed after reaching the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
