"Despite the statements of the Chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, the Russian armed forces have not gained full control over any of the major cities. Instead, the Russians have lost almost 210 thousand soldiers, 2,174 armored vehicles, 1,201 tanks, 7,303 artillery systems and 157 multiple rocket launchers in pointless battles in the Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk regions since the beginning of the year," the statement from the Ukrainian General Staff says.
Russian reports of successes in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions are also said to be merely attempts to hide the outcome of unsuccessful military operations - a stalemate and the loss of tens of thousands of soldiers.
The General Staff also rejected Russia's claims about"high-precision weapons" and "the destruction of the Ukrainian missile industry," calling them fabrications.
Apollo.lv reported earlier this summer that Russia was planning a large-scale offensive this summer, the aim of which was to"destroy the morale of Ukrainians."
"Ukrainian sources claim that captured Russian officers say the summer offensive is being presented as a 'final assault' to break Ukrainian morale," The Economist wrote.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army, Russian military casualties in Ukraine had reached 1,082,140 soldiers by Sunday morning.
According to the General Staff, 810 invaders were destroyed within 24 hours.
Since the start of the renewed invasion on February 24, 2022, the Russians have lost 11,151 tanks, 23,212 armored personnel carriers, 32,199 guns and mortars, 1,476 multiple rocket launchers, 1,213 anti-aircraft artillery systems, 422 aircraft, 340 helicopters, 55,062 unmanned aerial vehicles, 3,664 cruise missiles, 28 ships and speedboats, one submarine, 60,305 cars and tankers, as well as 3,952 specialized equipment units.
