Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected Vladimir Putin's idea of a bilateral meeting in Moscow, responding yesterday with a proposal for the Russian leader to visit Kiev, Ukrinform reported, citing an interview Zelensky gave to the American television channel ABC News.
"He can come to Kiev. I can't go to Moscow when my country is under missile strikes, under attack every day. I can't go to the capital of this terrorist," Zelensky said.
According to him, Putin's proposal was actually intended to postpone their meeting.
Zelensky stressed that he is ready for a meeting in any form. In his opinion, Putin is"playing with the United States."
"If a person does not want to meet during a war, of course, he can offer something that would not be acceptable to me or others," the Ukrainian president noted.
Putin said yesterday that he is ready to meet with Zelensky and Moscow is the best place for a possible meeting between the two.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga earlier said that seven countries are currently ready to host a meeting between Zelensky and Putin, but definitely not in Moscow. These include Austria, the Vatican, Switzerland, Turkey and three Gulf states.
