Initially, the media reported on Parubiy's killing, citing sources, but now the politician's death has also been confirmed by law enforcement and state leaders.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed condolences to the relatives.

"Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported on the first known circumstances of the terrible murder in Lviv," Zelensky wrote on social media.

"Andrijs Parubiy has been killed. I express my condolences to his family and friends," the president said.

All necessary forces and resources are involved in the investigation and search for the killer, Zelensky added.

Parubiy has been a member of parliament for several terms. He held the position of speaker from 2016 to 2019. In the 2019 elections, Parubiy was elected to parliament from the list of former president Petro Poroshenko's"European Solidarity" party.

Surveillance cameras filmed the murder, reports the online publication"Unian", noting that the video has already been published on several social media profiles.

The video footage shows the killer walking behind Parubiy for some time.

At one point, the attacker pulls out a gun, shoots several times, and then walks in the opposite direction.

The killer had a helmet on his head and a yellow messenger backpack on his shoulders.
