The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June was 1.6%—slightly higher than May's 1.5%—and totaled 39.4% compared to the same month last year, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC) reported Monday. So far this year, the increase has totaled 15.1%.
The division with the greatest increase in the month was Education (3.7%), followed by Housing, water, electricity and other fuels (3.4%).
On the other hand, the two divisions that registered the smallest variations in June were Food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.6%) and Clothing and footwear (0.5%).
The report also broke down monthly variations by region. Greater Buenos Aires registered the largest increase, with 2%, followed by Patagonia with 1.8%. In Patagonia, the CPI was 1.3%, while in the Northwest and Northeast, it was 1.2% and 1.1%, respectively. Cusco registered the smallest increase, with 1%.
In terms of categories, regulated prices led the increase with 2.2%, followed by the core CPI with 1.7%. On the other hand, seasonal prices registered a decrease of -0.2%.
Item by item, the divisions with the largest increases in June were:
- Education: 3.7%
Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels: 3.4%
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 2.8%
Recreation and culture: 2.5%
Health: 2.2%
Restaurants and hotels: 2.1%
Home equipment and maintenance: 1.9%
Communication: 1.8%
On the other hand, the categories with the smallest increases were:
- Transportation: 1.6%
- Miscellaneous goods and services: 1%
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 0.6%
- Clothing and footwear: 0.5%
