'Bang bang bang': Eyewitnesses recount panic during Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney

"10 minutes of just bang bang bang," was how an eyewitness described the violence he saw at Sydney's Bondi Beach shooting, in which eleven people were killed, and several others were injured at one of Australia’s most famous tourist destinations.News agency AFP reported the account of Camilo Diaz, a 25-year-old Chilean tourist who shared the moment as he recalls,"We heard the shots. It was shocking. It felt like 10 minutes of just bang, bang, bang. It seemed like a powerful weapon."

Timothy Brant-Coles, a British tourist who also witnessed the gunfire at the Sydney hotspot, recounted the moments of panic and confusion. He said,"There was a shooting, two shooters in black with semi-automatic rifles," describing how multiple people were shot and sustained injuries as the attack unfolded.30-year-old resident Harry Wilson told the Sydney Herald, he"saw at least 10 people on the ground and blood everywhere."One victim, who was shot in the leg, said he barricaded himself inside the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club with dozens of others, hearing repeated"popping noises" as people leapt over security fencing and fled for safety."People were dragging their kids away, there were something like 40 shots. It sounded like fireworks," said Sydney teacher Bianca, 26, who heard dozens of gunshots ring out across the beach."They looked shocked, traumatised, confused," she further describes, as quoted by AFP.Lachlan Moran, 32, from Melbourne, told The Associated Press that he was waiting nearby for his family when he heard gunshots and immediately ran, dropping the beer he was carrying for his brother. “You heard a few pops, and I freaked out and ran away. ... I started sprinting. I just had that intuition. I sprinted as quickly as I could,” Moran said, adding that he heard shooting on and off for about five minutes. Describing the chaos, he said, “Everyone just dropped all their possessions and everything and were running, and people were crying, and it was just horrible.” Grace, 30, also from Melbourne and her partner Joel Sargent, 30, told AP they were in their hotel room when they heard loud banging and looked out the window to see people running down the street and taking cover behind trees and cars. “People were screaming, and the gun sounded so loud,” Grace said. “It was constant; it would have been over 50 (shots), easily.”Meanwhile, a witness, who declined to be named, said he saw at least six people lying dead or wounded on the beach.Other people on or around the beach said they heard up to 50 gunshots and saw bodies on the ground near Campbell Parade.According to the latest reports, New South Wales police revealed the involvement of two shooter out of which one was killed while the other one was critically injured.
