Europe has delivered more military aid to Ukraine through the defense industry than the United States, according to research by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW).
Based on data from the Ukraine Support Tracker at IfW, from the beginning of the Russian attack on Ukraine until the end of June 2025, European states procured new military equipment worth more than 35.1 billion euros through contracts, 4.4 billion more than the total value of the weapons systems procured in the same way by the US during the same period.
According to the Institute, European states now procure almost half of the military assistance they provide to Ukraine through the arms industry rather than from the reserves of their armed forces.
Of the 10.5 billion euros of European military aid allocated in May and June of this year, at least 4.6 billion are expected to end up in orders to arms companies, an amount corresponding to a 43.8% share of total military aid to Ukraine.
