‘Obsessed with you’: Swimming star Kyle Chalmers’ gorgeous baby reveal

Friday, August 29

Aussie swimming great Kyle Chalmers and his fiancee Ingeborg Loyning have welcomed their first child to the world.

Chalmers, 27, is a nine-time Olympic medallist and is coming off a successful world championships earlier this month, while his partner Loyning is an accomplished swimmer herself for her native Norway.

The couple kept their relationship a secret for over a year before going public in late 2023, with Chalmers making the gorgeous announcement they were expecting their first child in March.

On Friday evening, the couple took to Instagram to announce their daughter Astrid had been born a day earlier.

“Astrid Olivia,” the post read. “Born 8:38am on the 28th of the 8th 2025. We are obsessed with you.”

Posted just after 6pm AEST, the post has already gone viral, with almost 7000 likes and well over 300 comments.

Many of them came from gushing members of the swimming community.

Swedish swimmer Hanna Rosvall, who claimed relay gold at last year’s world titles, led the congratulations.

“I’m crying!!! She’s adorable and I can’t want to meet her,” she wrote.

World Aquatics, the sport’s governing body, wrote: “Huge congratulations!”

“Congratulations guys!!! She’s super beautiful and adorable Astrid,” was another comment.

“Awwww I’m so incredibly happy for you both!! Astrid is just divine!! We all can’t wait to meet our new bestie. Congrats Mum and Dad,” wrote a fourth.

Earlier this year, Chalmers questioned his swimming career and lifted the lid on his mental health battles amid the infamous Australian team “love triangle” saga.

The Aussie swimmer, who won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, found himself at the centre of controversy in 2022 when reports surfaced fellow swimmer and former girlfriend Emma McKeon was dating singer-turned-swimmer Cody Simpson.

Chalmers detailed the toll that saga took on him in a chat with Body+Soul in June.

“It definitely impacted my mental health and wellbeing and it kind of made me be like ‘do I actually want to put myself through this’,” he said.

“I love swimming. I love representing my country at the highest level.

“But I don’t want to talk about my personal life and then have that criticised in front of the world.

“As a young person in sport, you get into it for the love of sport; you don’t ever think you’re going to have to deal with these things.”

Once a notoriously private person, Chalmers has found love and happiness with Loyning and is clearly now comfortable announcing his most cherished moments to the world.
