Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy, a central figure in the 2014 pro-European Maidan revolution, was assassinated today, Saturday, in the western part of the country, Ukrainian authorities announced.
As it became known, they have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the perpetrator.
A video that has been released online shows the moment of the murder, while the circumstances of his death and the reasons for which he was targeted are currently unknown.

An unidentified man shot and killed Andriy Parubiy in Lviv, a major city in western Ukraine, the prosecutor general's office said. The suspect fled and a special operation was launched to locate him, the same source added.
A homicide investigation has also been launched, the prosecutor's office announced, which pledged to determine the identity of the gunman and the circumstances of the crime.
Who was Andriy Parubiy?
MP Andriy Parubiy, aged 54, a central figure in the Maidan revolution in favor of the country's European path, served as speaker of the Ukrainian parliament from 2016 to 2019.
He was also Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from February to August 2014, a period during which hostilities began in eastern Ukraine and Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula.
In 2014, he survived an assassination attempt with a hand grenade, Ukrainian media reported.
Zelensky: Horrible murder
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his sorrow over the horrific murder and promised that all necessary forces and means would be mobilized in the investigation.
In photos purporting to show the crime scene and published by Ukrainian media, but their authenticity has not been verified, a man with a bloodied face can be seen lying on the street.
The suspect was dressed as a delivery man and riding an electric bicycle, state broadcaster Suspilné reported, citing anonymous sources.
