The death toll from the torrential rains and thunderstorms that struck the province of Safi on Sunday, causing exceptional flooding in just one hour, has risen to 21, local authorities said.
In an initial provisional report, authorities announced seven deaths caused by the violent flash floods that swept away everything in their path, flooding several homes and businesses. Twenty other people were also rescued and admitted to Mohammed V Hospital in Safi.
On the ground, the mobilization remains total. Rescue workers, local authorities, and security services are relentlessly continuing search and sweep operations in the hope of finding any missing persons. At the same time, measures have been taken to secure the affected areas and provide support and assistance to the populations impacted by this exceptional situation.

The material damage is considerable. In the medina, approximately 70 houses and businesses, mainly on Bir Anzaran Street and Abu Dahab Square, were flooded. About ten vehicles were swept away by the torrents, while the section of road linking Safi to the center of the Ahrara municipality, on provincial road 2300, was severely damaged.
In this context of maximum vigilance, the provincial directorate of the Ministry of National Education in Safi has decided to suspend classes this Monday, December 15, 2025. This preventive measure aims to guarantee the safety of students as well as teaching and administrative staff, due to the deteriorating weather conditions.
The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) had, for its part, issued an orange level alert bulletin, announcing heavy rains of between 20 and 40 millimeters, expected on Sunday between 5:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. in several provinces, including Safi, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Rehamna, Figuig, Errachidia, Berkane and Nador.
