The Pentagon has reportedly authorized the White House to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, according to information reported by CNN, which cites official sources from the United States and Europe who were aware of the matter.

The U.S. Department of Defense headquarters assessed that supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine – such as the Tomahawks – would not negatively impact U.S. stockpiles. But despite the Pentagon's apparent"green light," the final decision to send the military equipment to Ukraine depends on U.S. President Donald Trump.

Last week, Ukrainian Head of State Volodymyr Zelenskiy had already hinted, on the sidelines of the European Council leaders' meeting, that the shipment of these missiles to the country could be imminent.

With a range of 2,500 kilometers, Tomahawk missiles would allow Ukraine to attack different parts of Russian territory, not just those along the border.

The information comes after Trump today canceled plans to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Budapest, according to the Financial Times. The decision appears to have come after a call between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Rubio reportedly told Donald Trump that Moscow showed no interest in negotiating.
